Human--Computer Interaction (HCI) is the study of the way people interact with technology. It is both an academic area and also a design discipline that includes user experince design and user interace design. Within AI it may be an application area, in particular intelligent user interfaces. More generally whenevr an AI system is used by people there needs to be effective design adopting both general HCI principles, but also special design issues for human--AI interactions.
